Description: Antonio's Point/Counterpoint is based on the fugue from the first movement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso, opus 3, no. 11. The three main fugal statements of the Vivaldi concerto were taken and surrounded by an original introduction, coda, and jazz and fugal episodes composed by arranger Hal Peterson, creating a "third stream" arrangement for orchestra. The work features a solo group of flute and trumpet in D, with a modernized continuo consisting of vibraphone, electric bass, and drums (with brushes).

History: Antonio's Point/Counterpointwas completed and recorded in chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra versions during the spring of 1981. A new arrangement, using a more standard orchestration, was prepared in the spring of 1985 for the summer series of the Colorado Springs Symphony and first performed by them that June and July. This new edition, with a few minor revisions, was completed in the summer of 1992.
